This is a good course for the low handicapper. Known as the Grand Dame of Sierra golf courses, Edgewood includes lakeside frontage, an elegant palatial clubhouse, a gourmet restaurant and enough banquet rooms to host several types of social functions from weddings to conferences. This course is the site of the annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, a major televised event held in July. However, Edgewood's distinction is having the only two holes right on the shore of Lake Tahoe. These are the 17th (207 yards, an easy par 3) and the finishing 18th (574 yards, par 5).

Built in 1920 in South Lake Tahoe, this scenic nine-holer is located in Bijou Meadows just off Hwy. 50 near the center of town. Bijou is a respectable track for players of all abilities. Operated by the City of South Lake Tahoe, the course takes no advance reservations, but it is one of the easiest to get on in the Tahoe Basin.
There are five par 4s and four par 3s, and Bijou Creek provides water hazards on five holes until midsummer. Pine trees line many of the holes, and there are vistas of Freel Peak and Heavenly Ski Area. In general, the greens are small and include many tricky undulations. |
Owned by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, this course has a spacious clubhouse and can provide challenges. There are potential water hazards on 16 holes, including sections of the Upper Truckee River, although there are enough straightaway fairways to make up for the double bogeys. The course has a lot of diversity, including a scenic wetland with pines and aspens, and a huge rocky bluff behind the 10th that is unique in the Lake Tahoe region.
